Chatham Fish Pier

 The Chatham Fish Pier

One of Chatham’s most popular attractions is the Fish Pier, and it, along with the Fish Pier Garden, is anchored by monument plaza.  Central to the plaza is a large sculpture, The Provider, created by Sig Purwin, which honors local commercial fisherman and the town’s maritime heritage.   The Chatham Garden Club maintains pots and planters of various sizes that are scattered throughout the plaza and filled with annuals chosen for their ability to withstand the coastal environment as well as provide seasonal color.  Two sides of the plaza are flanked by perennial beds that include pollinators weigela, catmint, woodland sage, and a variety of native grass species well adapted to sandy soils, coastal winds, and variable weather.  New to the garden in 2026 is a memorial anchored by a baby blue spruce tree.  And no Cape Cod garden would be complete without the iconic beach rose, rosa rugosa, a tough, salt-tolerant deciduous shrub that defines the coastal landscape.  It serves as an integral part of the plaza!
