David Shapiro is a Senior Teacher Naturalist with the Massachusetts Audubon Society and is based on Cape Cod. This Massachusetts Audubon Society campaign focuses on reducing the use of second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) due to their harmful effects on wildlife, particularly raptors, and pets. These poisons, while intended for rodents, can move up the food chain, poisoning animals like owls, hawks, and eagles that prey on poisoned rodents. The initiative encourages communities to adopt Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies and advocate for local policies that restrict or ban SGARs.
This program is made possible by the Chatham Garden Club's Conservation Committee
