Celebrate our Gardens with Art
Purchase Here: Kassie Foss Notecards & Wreath Poster
In 2024, nationally-known artist Kassie Foss donated watercolor renderings of town gardens to the Chatham Garden Club, which we have packaged into beautiful notecards and poster print. With the help of the Chatham Chamber of Commerce, we are able to offer 4.25" x 5.5" collection of notecards that feature each of the ten gardens, and a 11" x 14" poster print that incorporates them all.
You can purchase today directly from Square, by clicking here.
You can also find us at the Christmas Stroll next to Santa in the Information Booth. The notecards and poster wreath are a perfect hostess gift for the holidays, or stocking stuffer!
The Chatham Garden Club, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.) Proceeds are used to nurture and maintain gardens with annuals, perennials, natives and pollinators.
As a respected and nationally-known artist, many of you will recognize Kassie's artwork. As Kassie is also a resident of Chatham, it will come as no surprise that she, too, fell in love with our town gardens. Chatham Garden Club members nurture and maintain a number of Chatham’s Town Gardens, getting help from the DPW crews and local AmeriCorps and Boy Scout teams when clean-up and mulching require heavy lifting. You may have seen us in the pink t-shirts, spread across Chatham Town Gardens from April to October each year. We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you in our gardens come spring time. Toot your horn to say hello, or better yet, get out of the car and we will give you a quick tour!
Atwood House
The Chatham Historical Society’s centerpiece is the Atwood House dating from circa 1752. The original gambrel roof house is a definitive example of Cape Cod homes that dotted the landscape in the late 17th century. Museum galleries and exhibits have been added to the Atwood House over time, including the herb garden in 1975 as a memorial and bicentennial project. This garden is tended by Chatham Garden Club volunteers and contains herbs that were commonly grown in colonial times.
The design of the garden is Colonial Revival, and it is structured as a square courtyard nestled close to the house. The rectilinear beds are neat and trim, easily accessible by brick pathways with a sundial in the center. The aromatic herb garden is a sensual delight for visitors and includes golden oregano, chives and lemon thyme. The garden features beautiful pastel colors from purple lavender, nepeta and germander. From early summer to fall the attractive star-shaped flowers of borage and plumes of rosemary add texture and attract the melodious sound of pollinators.
