The Future of Eelgrass in Pleasant Bay 

Please join us as Dr. Alyssa Novak, research faculty at Boston University and leader in recent analysis, shares her findings on the plight of dwindling eelgrass. With a focus on ecology and conservation, she knows the crucial role of eelgrass and also the conditions that threaten this marine plant. Working with Cape Cod National Seashore, Dr. Novak’s summer field study focuses on climate-adapted restoration efforts of eelgrass located at Pleasant Bay. She will explain the project, the goal of her study, and the outcomes.

Managing Storm Water Run-off in Your Gardens

Presented by Kristen Andres, the Associate Director for Education and Informational Service at the Association to Preserve Cape Cod.  She will describe the problems associated with the precipitation of major storms in our properties, share ways to manage and preserve rain water in our neighborhoods and offer examples of activities underway here in Chatham.

Why is so much gardening information on the internet so awful?  Why is it impossible to do just one thing in the garden?  Why should you never compute the value of your labor when you garden? Why do we have garden benches even though we never sit in them?

These are the questions that keep Neal Sanders awake at night.  As the spouse of an avid and accomplished gardener with no ‘real’ responsibilities other than to dig holes and move rocks, Neal has lots of time to observe gardeners and their foibles.  Today, he’ll share some of those observations in a talk – ‘Gardening Is Murder – that he guarantees will be unlike any gardening lecture you’ve ever heard.

Neal is the author of 15 mysteries, many of which use garden club or horticultural settings and all of which feature strong, independent women.  He writes ‘The Principal Undergardener’ blog, which addresses gardening as a non-gardener who loves gardens.  He and his wife, Betty, live in Medfield, Massachusetts.
